Iran has a very active underground liberal society. Under the all encompassing burkhas women wear jeans and tees. Iranians do have pre-marital and extra-marital sex, enjoy love lives and a few things considered as taboos. Though banned and looks quite unimaginable from outside, prostitution is rampant in Iran.
Iranian pop singers have made quite a name for themselves. In the university levels, you can hear open dissenting voices against the government and the clergy defying the imposed system.
It comes as no surprise to me that there is a thriving fan-base of Iranian rap. And perhaps through 'meaningful' lyrics sending social and political messages, they may bring some change in the system.

there is still a long way to go before iranians can do as they want. iran is a progressive country and has vast natural wealth. unlike other people of the various neighbouring countries iranians feel very proud of their persian race and history. they feel differently about themselves from the arabs.

iranians have always been known to enjoy music. there are iranian musicians who are living in self exile in various parts of the world esp the west. the shah might not have been a good thing for iran but i am sure that iranians do cherish the degree of cultural liberty that they enjoyed during those times before the revolution.

with a huge youth population it is unlikely that the current strictly theocratic system of governance can be sustained until unless of course education and information inflow is stifled. more and more people are joining the band that believes in unshackling themselves.

It is impossible to stop Iran from becoming an overtly liberal society within the framework of Islamic values. I would like to say that Iran is well on its path to moderate Islamic nation like Syria, Indonesia or Egypt though the countries are not officially Islamic republics.

This brings the focus on the Iranian clergy who is running the main show in Iran. Their stranglehold on every domestic and international business is being constantly threatened. So are we going to witness another revolution in Iran - this time against the clergy? Seems quite likely.

It is just a matter of time that Hichkas is rounded up and thrown in the dungeon. I am surprised by his courage. Since he hasn't been arrested yet and thrown into jail after a show trial shows that the Iranian government is wary of antagonizing the youth further especially when there is so much dissent against the government.

The best thing about Iran is that it has a democratic setup and the votes are real. There might be dissent and strong opposition against the government but Iranians stand united when it comes to foreign threats.

Iran should learn a thing or two from us and unite to form a true democratic government. If we can bring down a mighty dictator to his knees you can do so as well. Of course, Pakistan is much, much liberal than Iran and Pakistani courts are independent and pass just judgments. Here we have professional judges and judiciary is not influenced by radical mullahs or even the all powerful military.

Iranians may have been put under lot of stupid laws, but the vibrant education system makes them a cosmopolitan society in its true sense. But Mullahs are hard-bent on breaking that society and which was evident by making 1800 nominations as illegal.
I really hope that Iran sees more freedom, not only from outside but also from inside.

It is great that music is enabling Iran to break the shackles of the hardcore Islamic values that grip it’s establishment. There’s no doubt that youth connects with Rap culture quite easily.
Well, Hichkas is currently under more pressure than anyone can imagine from the government in Iran to stop his music or to change it towards their own likings. It’s just a game of cat and mouse, hopefully, Hickas will get away from the cat.

I’m not sure about women in Iran wearing Burkhas...but yes, they do wear Jeans, t-shirts and even Lipstick! Actually, they’re beyond that point, they probably dress to the nines and would rival the girls walkind down the streets of Paris. But you have to remember that the women are restricted by the rules of their government that prohibit all of this.

There’s no stopping the younger generation. Most of them are educated, online, and forward-thinking. The thing about Hichkas is that he reminds everyone about the life-issues, the seedier side of Tehran.
